Soapstone (also known as steatite) is a type of metamorphic rock that has been used as a carving medium for thousands of years. Various cultures have used it to create everything from cookware, totems, and statues, to tools and cathedrals.
I carve each piece from Canadian-sourced soapstone. My preference is to work with oddly broken stones in order to create something truly unique.
Pieces range from palm-sized to weighing in over 10lbs, and take between 5 and 16hours to complete. Currently all work is sold or in my own personal collection.
